Welcome to Owning Your CRM, a behind-the-scenes look at what’s really going on inside small and medium-sized businesses trying to get more value from their CRM systems. Whether it’s HubSpot, Salesforce, Monday.com or another platform — I’m here to help businesses move from chaos to clarity.
Here’s what this week looked like.
My week kicked off in London with MJ from Balo — a platform connecting Salesforce customers with the top 1% of vetted Salesforce experts. Think of it as Tinder meets Fiverr, but exclusively for Salesforce support.
If you're a Salesforce user who wants help without committing to a full project, Bailo is definitely worth checking out. They're currently offering $300 of free credit for your first support request, If you sign up and use the code NEW2BALO (https://balo.expert/).
I also had the chance to reconnect with Heather Black, CEO of Supermums. She’s on an incredible mission to help women — especially mums returning to work — build flexible, well-paid careers in the Salesforce ecosystem. Heather’s been a mentor and inspiration in my own journey, and it’s always a pleasure to catch up.
I met with Turtle Engineering, a local business, doing life saving work, supplying defilirator cabinets and bleed kits. They run their e-commerce site through WooCommerce and manage production in MRPeasy. We’re working to integrate both systems using Zapier, automating order flow and saving hours of manual effort each week.
Later, I had a fun "getting to know you" session with Purple Monster, a Warwick-based creative agency that runs brilliant virtual events. They’ve been using HubSpot, but were facing common issues:
Workflows that don’t behave
General mistrust in the data
Over the next few months, we’ll be bringing clarity and consistency to their setup — and giving the team confidence in their system again.
Midweek, I joined fellow business owners at the Coaching 360 Growth Club, a quarterly planning session. This one stood out thanks to two incredible guest speakers (The “Two Woodies”), who reminded us how important optimism and energy are — especially heading into Q4.
While I was there, I also caught up with Neil McAdam from Dee Limited, an engineering firm moving from spreadsheets to a fully integrated HaloCRM system. We’re consolidating procurement, time tracking, sales and project delivery into one platform — a game-changer that will save time and reduce risk across the business.
Thursday brought an exciting session with a new HubSpot customer (under NDA), who had built their own internal CRM but were now layering in HubSpot for sales and marketing.
We resolved a workflow issue where deals weren’t enrolling properly, fixed their reporting, and built out activity dashboards to track their new sales reps. Now, they have full visibility over performance, targets, and KPIs — right inside HubSpot.
And on Friday, I wrapped the week with Purple Monster’s quarterly business review. We deep-dived into their sales dashboards and fixed filtering issues that were skewing their reports. The result?
They discovered that while Q3 had felt tough, their year-on-year revenue was actually up — a huge morale boost and a perfect reminder of why clear reporting matters.
Each of these stories highlights a common theme: CRM systems often almost work — but not quite.
It’s the small things that derail momentum:
A broken workflow that never gets flagged
A report that “feels wrong” but no one’s sure why
A team using the tool, but not trusting the output
That’s exactly why I created the Own Your CRM programme — to help teams take control of their CRM without having to overhaul their entire system or start from scratch.
This isn’t just training or advice — it’s:
Live working sessions tackling your real CRM problems
WhatsApp support so you're never stuck in limbo
Clarity, accountability, and progress, week after week
If anything in this article feels familiar, I’d love to help. I’m currently offering the first hour of the Own Your CRM programme completely free — no strings attached.
