The "Vibe Coding" Revolution. Innovation or Illusion?
EXECUTIVE TL;DR
"Vibe coding": using natural language to build software is the latest trend promising to disrupt the CRM giants. While it’s a powerful "leg up" for developers, it’s being dangerously marketed as a way for non-experts to replace established platforms. My stance is simple: Vibe coding is transformative in the right hands, but catastrophic in the wrong ones.
The "Vibe Coding" Revolution: Innovation or Illusion?
If you follow the tech space, you’ve likely encountered a new buzzword: Vibe Coding. The concept is seductive. It suggests that the days of needing deep technical expertise to build software are over. Instead, you simply describe what you want in plain English, your "vibe" and an AI agent generates the code, the UI, and the database in seconds.
I’m seeing an explosion of content claiming that this is the "death knell" for established giants like Salesforce and HubSpot. The narrative is that these platforms are too bloated, too expensive, and about to be replaced by millions of bespoke, home-grown apps built by "vibing."
My Stance: A Transformative Tool, Not a Strategy. I’ve been involved in software development since 2012. I’ve seen the rise of "No-Code" and "Low-Code," and I do believe that Vibe Coding is a genuine leap forward. It is a transformative technology that allows us to deliver software at a rate we’ve never seen before.
However, I don't buy the hype that it will replace enterprise software. The danger is that we are confusing "building an app" with "running a business-critical system." Vibe coding lowers the barrier to entry, but it doesn't remove the fundamental laws of software development: architecture, security, scalability, and maintenance.
In this series, I’m going to dig into why the "vibe" isn't enough. We’ll look at the hidden technical debt, the staggering security risks, and why the "Right-Sized" argument often masks a massive "Vision Gap."
Vibe coding is an incredibly powerful tool for professionals who understand what they are looking at. But for a business leader looking to save a few pounds on CRM licences, it might just be the most expensive mistake they ever make.
